- 5" foam ball
- 1 roll of crepe paper
- A fun vase or bowl for the base of the topiary and a foam square - Mine is from HL.
- A 12" dowel for the topiary stick
- Moss to top the base
- Ribbon
- Glue gun
First I made the rosettes for the topiary ball. I used this tutorial from You Tube. You start with 24" piece of paper.
Crumple it up to give it some texture. Then fold down the top 1/3.
Start on one side and make small rolls. Once you have a few rolls you are going to fold (or twist) the paper from top to bottom.
Then continue to roll. Once the twist is out fold down the top again. Finish rolling and folding down until paper runs out and the rosette will look like this.
Then you hot glue it to the foam ball. Continue this until you have covered the ball with rosettes. This is pretty time consuming as you can tell by my photos. I obviously started at night after Sawyer's bedtime and finished the next day during nap time.
Once the ball is finished you can make the topiary. Push the foam square into the base.
The next step is inserting the dowel. The dowel I used was 12" long and I spray painted it white with leftover spray paint.
Take out the dowel and put some hot glue in the hole and then reinsert the dowel. Hot glue around the dowel.
Next is the topiary ball. Find the center and insert the dowel. Remove the dowel and add some hot glue. Then replace the ball on the dowel.
I topped the base with moss that was hot glued to hide the foam.
I added a cute Valentine's Day ribbon. What do you think? I will have a separate blog post about giving my entry way console a V-Day makeover.

I know this post is way old - but I need help! I am making one of these and the tissue paper roses keep turning out so small that it is taking a million of them to fill a 5in ball, which in turn is taking me way too much time to make! Any advise? Do you have a video tutorial that could help?
ReplyDeleteYour topiary is just adorable, you've done a lovely job and I've got these linked to my topiaries post too today!
